WHAT is PSYCHOTHERAPY?

It's normal to feel concerned about talking to someone new or about getting upset. Feelings are normal and they are really good information about what is happening inside you.

Psychotherapy is psychological therapy. It involves thinking, feeling, learning new things and sometimes doing new things. You may also do thinking and reflecting or even a little "homework" in between sessions.

You will work on the goals in your plan and you will talk about your hopes, expectations and timescale as part of this. You might also talk about a lot of other things in order to do this.

WHAT is MY Therapeutic ApproacH?

My therapeutic approach is mainly informed by Relational Psychotherapy and EMDR.

I work to build a safe empathetic relational frame with you which acts as a base to explore thinking and feeling from. I may also suggest and integrate ideas and techniques from other therapeutic areas to help us.

My practice is informed by:  Regular and Attachment-Focussed EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprogramming)Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), the Centaur Leadership Model, Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS), Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Pesso Boyden Psychomotor (PBSP), Psychodynamic Therapy and Brief Solution-Focused Therapy

WHAT IS EMDR?

EMDR (Eye Movement Densitization and Reprogramming) is a powerful and well-researched treatment for traumatic experience and doesn't necessarily require eye movements! This video is very informative.

In an EMDR session you will answer questions about your experience, do exercises to help you to feel calm and safe and follow the prompts of your therapist for thinking and speaking .

Alongside this you may do hand movements and/or eye movements or hold handbuzzers. I teach you these and do them with you so you can get the hang of it.

My aim is to help you feel safe, accepted and relaxed just as you are, so you can do it comfortably and get the most you can out of it.
